Ohio State went on a special run after losing to Michigan for the fourth straight time that will be remembered forever.
Going on that four-game run after the loss to Michigan, with wins over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame, really changed the fanbase's view of Ryan Day.
Another loss to Michigan raised the temperature with fans worried that Day would never be able to get over the hump. Then, he led the Buckeyes on the greatest run that college football has ever seen to end his sixth season as a head coach.
Day, 45, is entering his seventh season at Ohio State and it is one where the Buckeyes will try to defend their National Championship. Day is one of just three active college head coaches to have a National Championship win. With a record of 70-10 as a head coach, there aren’t many who have started their coaching career with this kind of success.
The good news for Buckeye fans is that Day does not plan on going anywhere anytime soon.
"I've said this before, I want to stay here as long as they'll have me," Day said in an interview with ABC 6. "This is a place with special people, It is an honor. It's going to be an honor to be the coach moving forward."
Day and the Buckeyes agreed on a contract extension after the win over Notre Dame that keeps him in Columbus through the 2031 season. Ohio State’s head coach is the second highest paid in the country at $12.5 million behind only Georgia’s Kirby Smart.
Ohio State brought a ton of talent back for the 2024 season, and it worked out almost as planned. The seniors had plans of beating Michigan, and though that didn’t happen, they were still able to accomplish the big goal of winning it all.
The Buckeyes’ football program is in a great spot and it starts up top with Day, who has been a great successor to Urban Meyer in Central Ohio.
