The Ohio State Buckeyes had their only home game of October in Week 6 against the Minnesota Golden Gophers and they handled business. No. 1 Ohio State used a complete showing to roll to a 42-3 win over the Gophers in what was a dominant day for the Buckeyes. Ohio State allowed an opening drive field goal to Minnesota and would go the rest of the way allowing zero points.

Matt Patricia’s defense is showing up in a big way for the Buckeyes. Going into the game allowing just 5.5 points per game (No. 1 in FBS), the Buckeyes didn’t even allow that. Ohio State had 476 yards of offense compared to just 162 yards of offense given up to Minnesota in the impressive showing. After opening the season with a 24-3 road win at Washington, Ohio State looked even better back at home on Saturday night.

Ryan Day gives a brief injury update on Ohio State DE Kenyatta Jackson

In the first quarter against Minnesota, Ohio State lost Jackson to what the NBC broadcast was calling a stinger. Jackson was injured on a hit by Minnesota QB Drake Lindsey and was unable to return to action after being helped off the field. After halftime, Jackson was no longer in uniform and it was the sign his day was over.

“It was good to see Kenyatta up and moving around and cheering on, supporting his teammates,” Day said after the game. “We’ll take a look at it and have an update hopefully soon.”

Ohio State brought in North Carolina transfer DE Beau Atkinson opposite of Caden Curry when Jackson had to exit. An interesting note was that the Buckeyes played true freshman Zion Grady over C.J. Hicks in passing situations on third down. The Buckeyes had one sack of Lindsey and that was LB Arvell Reese, who is now up to three sacks on the season. While Ohio State’s defense didn’t force any turnovers, it held Lindsey to 15-of-26 passing for just 94 yards.

The Buckeyes will be on the road next week against No. 22 Illinois and the status of Jackson will be something to watch. Jackson has to exit the Texas game to start the season and has a pair of sacks on the season so far. Expect Ohio State to be careful with this one, but if he’s able to go he will be out there next Saturday.
