Amid false rumors the Ohio State Buckeyes were going to hire former program great and NFL star LeCharles Bentley, Ryan Day has still accomplished a major win regarding the All-American center. One of the most effective and renowned private offensive line coaches in the country, Bentley has been spending more time in Columbus, Ohio.

This led to speculation the Buckeyes were bringing Bentley on board in an official capacity, but Jeremy Birmingham refuted that in the latest edition of THE Podcast. Per Birmingham, Bentley has indeed been around the program more lately, but team sources said there's not a defined role for him right now, and there's maybe potential for something part-time in the future.

Day previously extended a branch out to 2002 National Champion and fellow program legend Maurice Clarett in November, calling him an "asset" to have around the team. Clarett's tough journey through football and life has given him a unique experience and perspective to share with the Buckeyes.

Ryan Day welcomes Ohio State legend back to Buckeyes as an 'asset to our program'

The Ohio State Buckeyes want to have good relationships with their alumni, so Ryan Day has welcomed an important part of the team's history back into the program. Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett has been seen on the sideline lately, and Day was asked about what Clarett brings to the table. Despite Clarett's vocal […]

Now, Bentley's newfound involvement could be an even bigger win for Day and his Buckeyes. His on-field resume is impressive enough, but he's stayed involved in football as he trains top prospects and NFL players at L. Bentley O-line Performance (OLP).

Plus, there could be a recruiting benefit for the Buckeyes as they re-tool with new offensive line coach Tyler Bowen. Bowen is much more recruiting-inclined than his predecessor, Justin Frye. But that doesn't mean Bentley's connections to the DMV area won't be helpful, or that his presence can't be that extra boost the Buckeyes may have been lacking without him.

The former Cleveland St. Ignatius standout started his journey under John Cooper but had his most successful season at center during Jim Tressel's inaugural year at Ohio State.

As a four-year letter winner in Columbus, Bentley delivered his finest performance in his final season, earning numerous accolades, such as a first-team All-Big Ten selection, consensus All-American honors, and the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation's top center.

Bentley leveraged his senior season to be selected as the 44th overall pick in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Over his NFL career, he started in 53 games and was named to the Pro Bowl twice (in 2002 and 2005) before injuries took a toll on his career. He ultimately retired in 2009 after sitting out the 2008 season.

Here's how Bentley's "About" page reads on his website:
