Ohio State HC Ryan Day’s wanted change for college football would be an impactful move for the entire sport

There’s one big change Ryan Day wouldn’t mind seeing for college football, and it would change the game forever. The impact would certainly be felt by the Buckeyes.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have a very new-looking team this year with big names like QB Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith returning. All of the new, 51 players to be exact, are a good example of just the new era of college football we’re in.

Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day wants to see the game keep evolving if it’s going to continue to go away from the amateur status with NIL and revenue share. He has a big idea for the game, and it certainly would change things forever.

Ryan Day already runs Ohio State like it’s the NFL, and he could see college football following suit

“It’s not too far-fetched for me to think there’s a way that you could actually have a draft and build it like the NFL,” Day stated in an interview on Wednesday with ESPN. “I know that seems a little bit out there. But we’re gonna need a lot of help to get there, I can tell you that right now.”

Day continued with a strong stance on the current landscape of college football.

“Once we started going down this road of NIL, we have to go one of two ways, in my opinion. We almost have to go back to the way we were before, or we need to go all the way toward the NFL. I think right now, we are sort of in purgatory.

“And I think until we start to make some hard decisions and create that overall structure, we’re still gonna be in this phase.”

We are at a point where $40 million rosters will be a thing soon if they aren’t already in college football. Every transfer portal haul and recruiting class Ohio State brings in comes with a hefty cost, as well as retaining those players. Going toward an NFL style we could potentially see something like a salary cap, draft, and more changes implemented.

It’s crazy to think about right now, but 20 years ago the current landscape of college football was an afterthought. My point here is to keep an open mind.
