Ohio State has five commitments in the class of 2026 and the majority of their focus is on building that class out. However, the Buckeyes are working ahead for the class of 2027 too, where they already have a pair of commitments.
The Buckeyes have commitments from WR Jamier Brown and QB Brady Edmunds, two players who are top-10 recruits in the class currently.
Ohio State is already chasing other players in the class and their latest offer happens to be to the son of former Dallas Cowboys star TE Jason Witten.
2027 S Cooper Witten visited Ohio State this past week and the Buckeyes extended him an offer. Witten has been a player that Ohio State has had interest in for some time and they finally pulled the offer on the NFL legacy.
Witten is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety from Argyle, Texas and he attends Liberty Christian High School. The talented safety is ranked as the No. 24 overall player in the class of 2027 and the No. 1 safety, according to 247 Sports Composite.
Already having north of 20 offers, Witten has programs like Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, and Michigan chasing for his commitment in the 2027 class. Jason was a member of the Vols himself, so many believe they could be a factor in this. Texas has not offered yet, but his home-state school will be a factor at some point too.
Witten will be another name worth keeping an eye on. It is interesting that he is a stud defensive recruit, while his dad was one of the better tight ends to play the game. There is a long way to go in the class of 2027, but Witten is going to be a popular name all cycle.
