The National Championship game between Ohio State and Notre Dame is here at last.
Ohio State and Notre Dame will square off at 7:30 p.m. to decide who the top team in college football is. In the first season of the expanded College Football Playoff format, we have watched Ohio State go on quite the run to reach this point.
Wins over Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas have gotten the Buckeyes to this point. Notre Dame on the other hand has handed losses to Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State.
One of the top storylines entering this game is the Buckeyes going up against a former Ohio State player turned Notre Dame head coach. Marcus Freeman is set up for a big moment with a chance to win a National Championship against the team he once played for.
"Everybody at Ohio State respects Marcus and the fact that he went to Ohio State and had a great career there and certainly have a lot of respect for what he's done in his coaching career and what he's doing," Day said on Sunday. "He's a tremendous coach and does and unbelievable job."
Freeman has the Fighting Irish standing talk with a record of 14-1 and their lone loss was a wild slip-up against Northern Illinois. Freeman is 33-9 since taking over at Notre Dame in 2021. The 39-year-old head coach reaching a National Championship this quick is impressive.
One way or the other, we are going to have a head coach winning a National Championship for the first time tonight. If it is Ohio State, their bounce back since losing to Michigan to end the regular season will be a story told forever.
