Ryan Day was asked if he believes he will indeed be the head coach at Ohio State next year and he answered as any coach would with a yes. However, there is rising pressure on him and the Buckeyes to make a run in the College Football Playoff.

A fourth straight loss to Michigan was inexcusable for Ohio State and something no one saw coming against a Michigan team that was 6-5 heading into the game. Ohio State put up just 10 points and lost to Michigan to fall to 10-2 on the season.

The Buckeyes will not be playing against Oregon this weekend in the Big Ten Championship; they fumbled that opportunity to Penn State with their recent loss. Day spoke about the result a bit on Wednesday.

“There’s no way to defend losing four years in a row. Sometimes, when you’re really close and feel frustrated, you got to push through. And that’s what we’re gonna do,” Day stated.

Pushing through is one thing but pushing through with success is another thing. Ohio State needs to find success in the College Football Playoff. As of right now, the Buckeyes would host Tennessee in the first round of the postseason. It would be a great chance for the Buckeyes to knock out an SEC team that would be tasked with playing in the cold.

The only way that Ohio State can force folks to live down the loss to Michigan is going to win it all. If the Buckeyes can do that, the loss to Michigan would be the best thing to have happened to them.

“You know, I’m disappointed about this more than anybody. It crushes me, but we’re gonna continue to move and figure out what it is and overcome this obstacle,” Day explained. “We’ve got a great way to make this a little bit better by going and winning the whole thing this year. But then we figure out what it is and get it fixed moving forward. That’s it. It’s my job to make sure I’m focused on this team right now.”

Day is 66-10 as the head coach in Columbus. The four losses to Michigan and one National Championship appearance haven’t been quite good enough. Ohio State has a great chance to turn the tide this month after losing to Michigan, now they just wait to see what that road looks like.
