We are just a few days away from Ohio State’s biggest game of the regular season game. As always, the Buckeyes matching up with the Michigan Wolverines is a must-win.
The last few years haven’t gone to plan and after dominating the last couple of decades, the Buckeyes have lost three straight to Michigan.
Ohio State must change that this year and if they didn’t already, they now know how Michigan is going to try to win this game.
“I think the biggest piece of this game is the rushing battle,” Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore said on Monday. “I think you’ve seen that every year. The team that wins the rushing battle wins the game. They’re gonna be focusing on the same thing, so that’s gotta be an emphasis for us to do.”
Ohio State’s running back duo of TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins will be very important this week. Henderson has played in this game multiple times already and doesn’t have a win against Michigan. It is one of the reasons that he and other draft-eligible players returned to Columbus.
Michigan is very good at stopping the run and allows just 94 yards on the ground a game, which is ranked No. 10 in the country. On the other side of the football, the Wolverines rely heavily on the run game with 160 yards per game on the ground. Michigan is a run-first team and putting them in a position to have to throw the ball has caused problems.
Kalel Mullings leads Michigan with 832 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing. Donovan Edwards is no stranger to Ohio State and he is second in rushing with 578 yards and four touchdowns.
Ohio State is even better against the run and allows just 90 yards on the ground each game. The Buckeyes are racking up 178 rushing yards per game and have a pretty balanced offense.
Getting out to an early lead and getting ahead is the recipe for success in this one for Ohio State. If the Buckeyes force Michigan to have to throw the ball with Davis Warren, it is going to give the secondary and pass rush a chance to cause some issues.
