Ohio State has made a decision on Dave Portnoy ahead of the opener against Texas that’ll surely bother Michigan fans
An interesting decision that shouldn’t really surprise anyone after all.
Ohio State Buckeyes plays most of their key games at noon due to the Big Ten’s television deal with Fox. There’s no denying that the Buckeyes drive ratings for Fox’s college football coverage, and a prime example is their matchup with Texas being scheduled for noon rather than a night game.
When Fox sets up Big Noon Kickoff in Columbus on Saturday, new analyst Dave Portnoy is expected to be involved in some capacity thanks to the network’s partnership with Barstool Sports.
However, viewers won’t see much of Portnoy inside Ohio Stadium—a not so surprising development.
Ohio State makes its decision on Dave Portnoy
According to Front Office Sports, Ohio State has barred Barstool Sports and Dave Portnoy from entering Ohio Stadium for the home opener against Texas. The pregame show typically begins outside before moving inside ahead of kickoff. Portnoy will remain outside the stadium and will not join the Big Noon crew once they head in.
The move doesn’t come as a complete surprise given Portnoy’s ties to Michigan and his consistent trolling of Ryan Day and the Ohio State football program. With several Ohio State games set to air on Fox this season, this won’t be the last time his presence sparks conversation.
All of the focus should be on the game itself: No. 1 Texas coming into Columbus to face the No. 3 Buckeyes. Fresh off their national championship, Ohio State faces a major early test in a Cotton Bowl rematch with the Longhorns.
