The Ohio State Buckeyes are headed to the first ever 12-Team College Football Playoff National Championship. Ryan Day and his stacked roster of future NFL stars took down Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns 28-14 as their depth of talent proved too much to handle. And it's that extremely unique depth of young talent that got one top NFL Draft analyst talking Buckeyes Friday night.
Daniel Jeremiah, one of the premier faces of the NFL Draft cycle every single year, made quite the strong statement when it came to Ohio State's bright future following their massive playoff win over Texas.
Not only did Ohio State just look completely dominate three playoff opponents in a row with a senior-laden squad of elite NFL talents, but they're also–according to Jeremiah–going to return their two best players currently on the team next year. And those two players are likely the two most talented players in the country.
Who are those two players? It really doesn't even need to be said.
True freshman phenom wide receiver, Jeremiah Smith.
Unanimous 2024 All-American safety, Caleb Downs.
Yes, Ohio State may send 15 or more players off to the NFL this spring, but bringing back a wide receiver and a safety who both would already be first round picks if they were eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft is quite the luxury. Hopefully Ohio State and Ryan Day can pull off winning a national championship this year, but even if they don't it seems the Buckeyes will be in good position to make another strong push for a title this coming fall.
Jeremiah Smith has just posted the best true freshman wide receiver season of all time with 70 receptions, 1224 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns. Caleb Downs now has two All-American seasons under his belt with nearly 200 career tackles and double-digit passes defended.
Ohio State has much more than just those two star players returning as well. Wide receiver Carnell Tate–who would be the WR1 for about 100 FBS teams right now–is also returning. Do-it-all converted safety to linebacker Sonny Styles is likely going to return. Not to mention the rest of the players from their back to back Top 5 recruiting classes full of four and five stars.
If Ohio State defeats Notre Dame on January 20th, winning Ryan Day his first national championship, the Buckeyes may be on the precipice of building something truly special.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are headed back to the National Championship. They're set to play Notre Dame, and there will be plenty of hype for the game over the next week. The Buckeyes took care of business against a Texas Longhorns squad that kept punching back throughout the game. Ultimately, an Ohio State fan favorite […]
