The transfer portal opened today and there are already thousands of college football players in search of a new school. The Ohio State Buckeyes have several players included in that who have already decided to enter the portal.

Players have been making intentions known about the portal since the regular season ended and now former Penn State EDGE Chaz Coleman is one of them. Coleman and Ohio State have already been connected as a potential pairing, through the latest update isn’t great for the Buckeyes.

New update on Penn State transfer Chaz Coleman with more schools involved

Ohio State isn’t the only school in contention for one of the top players in the portal and it sounds like the price is going up. According to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong, two schools are emerging currently for the potential future star pass rusher.

“The Buckeyes were the first programs that Pete Nakos mentioned and they’re in strong talks with the Chaz Coleman camp early in this transfer portal cycle,” Wiltfong said. “But [it] sounds like it’s LSU and Tennessee that are the programs emerging as the price tag continues to go up in the initial discussions for his signature and opportunity.”

The price tag climbing for Coleman isn’t good news, knowing that Ohio State is going to have an eventual cap on what they think Coleman is worth. If another program outbids the Buckeyes for Coleman, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he signs elsewhere out of the transfer portal.

Coleman only had one sack this past season as a true freshman for Penn State. The thing that is attractive is Coleman’s potential to be a star off the edge of the defensive line. Coleman is an athletic freak at 6-4 and 246 pounds. The Warren, Ohio native had an Ohio State buffer out of high school, but it came in his senior year shortly before he committed to Penn State.

Ohio State simply got involved too late last time around and they’re trying to land Coleman now. He’s a player who could be the headliner of their portal class this winter, as well as one who would undoubtedly start for them next season. With the price climbing on Coleman and two SEC programs involved, Ohio State is now fighting an uphill battle.
