Urban Meyer gives his prediction on the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry game ahead of Saturday’s huge matchup
The Buckeyes and Wolverines match up on Saturday and former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer has made his selection.
We’re just a day away from the big rivalry game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines.
Ohio State heads north with an 11-0 record as the No. 1 team in the country, while the Wolverines sit at 9-2 and could make a strong College Football Playoff case with a win. Big Ten Championship stakes are on the line in Ann Arbor, and the Buckeyes need a victory to secure their spot against Indiana next weekend.
Urban Meyer gives his pick for the Ohio State vs. Michigan matchup
“Two names: Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate,” Meyer said, via On3. “If they play, they cover. If they don’t, they won’t. I still think the Buckeyes win. I just don’t see the Wolverines moving the ball against that defense. I don’t. All I can say is Vegas thinks it’s down to 10.5. Does Vegas know something?”
Meyer is picking the Buckeyes to win regardless of whether wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate are able to suit up. Both stars sat out the Rutgers game, and Tate has missed the last three contests. Ohio State’s passing game was clearly diminished without Smith and Tate on the field.
Ryan Day is 1-4 against the Wolverines all-time, with four straight losses. Meyer finished 7-0 against Michigan during his tenure and built on the dominance Jim Tressel established before him. Last year’s loss to Michigan sparked a deep College Football Playoff run, but beating the Wolverines remains an essential benchmark for the program—and a place where Ohio State must get back on track.
Michigan wants to control the game with its run attack and tough defense. Ohio State counters with the No. 1 defense in the country and a balanced offensive approach designed to complement it. The big game is almost here, and we’ll soon find out whether Meyer is right that the Buckeyes will finally end their losing streak to Michigan.
