The Penn State Nittany Lions fell again this past week, leaving James Franklin in a panic mode for what is next for him and his beleaguered roster. But for the top two teams in the Big Ten, Ohio State and Oregon, life is good. These undefeated powers are alongside Miami as the clear top three right now as October is now underway.
Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is already crystal-balling his way to December as we’ve seen six weeks pass. Only a handful of undefeateds remain, and the Buckeyes and Ducks don’t see each other in the regular season. The stage is set for a rematch of two great battles from 2024.
Meyer believes Ohio State will win another national title in 2025, but he went even further with his projections recently.
Urban Meyer predicts Ohio State title, eventual Oregon matchup in Playoff
When talking about Day’s accomplishments at Ohio State, including how Day surpassed Knute Rockne’s all-time win percentage, Meyer explained what makes this Ohio State team so impressive.
“Their defense is elite-elite. To go on the road and hold that quarterback, Demond Williams Jr., the way they contained him, I love that player. Absolutely, they can [repeat as title winners]. I would say Ohio State and Oregon will play twice. They’ll play in Indianapolis and in the College Football Playoff…To me, Ohio State and Oregon look a little bit different than everyone else.”
It’s hard to argue with Meyer. I’m of the same opinion that Ohio State is clearly the best team in the country right now, with only Oregon and Miami in similar company. Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M have serious talent as well, but we’ll see how those programs get it together. Meyer explained he didn’t see a team on this level in the SEC this year, but I could see each of those programs finding another gear by December.
