Washington HC Jedd Fisch isn’t holding his thoughts back on the Ohio State Buckeyes ahead of Saturday
A big matchup in the Big Ten will be happening in Week 5.
Saturday is a big one for the Ohio State Buckeyes since they’re on the road taking on the Washington Huskies. Though the Huskies are not ranked, Washington isn’t a team that the Buckeyes can overlook, and that’s why they’re just an 8.5-point favorite on the road. Washington is a tough place to play, and it will be the first road start for Ohio State sophomore QB Julian Sayin. In Year 2 for Jedd Fisch at Washington, the Huskies are off to a 3-0 start heading into conference play.
Jedd Fisch speaks on the Ohio State Buckeyes heading into Week 5
“Coach Patricia’s a fantastic defensive coach. They have a great staff,” Fisch said earlier in the week. “Coach Day does a great job. They’re going to prepare. They’re going to be very well coached. They’re going to have a really good game plan. So we are going to have to match that the best we can. And with their players, and with their personnel, we’re going to have to match that with our players and our personnel. So we’re going to do the best we can to go out there and play our best game and continue to play at a very high level.”
Ohio State’s defense is allowing just under six points per game this season, which is first in college football. Despite losing Jim Knowles and the bulk of its starting defense, the Buckeyes’ defense hasn’t missed a beat this season with Matt Patricia calling the shots.
Of course, the Texas Longhorns are the only real competition that the Buckeyes have faced to this point. Washington will be a good test with their dual-threat quarterback, Demond Williams. The Huskies also roll out one of the 2026 NFL Draft’s top wideout prospects with Denzel Boston.
“A year ago, their defense was fantastic too with a different coordinator,” Fisch said. “But Coach Knowles did an amazing job there as well. So that’s Ohio State. They’re gonna always have a great defense. They’re always gonna have a great offense and great kicking game. That’s why they win as much as they win.”
Ohio State is playing its first 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff of the season against Washington. When they return home in Week 6, it’ll be a night game against Minnesota. Fans who are against noon kickoffs are getting what they want for at least a couple of weeks.
