Who the Ohio State Buckeyes would have to play in the latest College Football Playoff rankings after win over Rutgers
The latest College Football Playoff rankings still have the Buckeyes on top ahead of game against Michigan.
The Ohio State Buckeyes took care of business last weekend against Rutgers and improved to 11-0 as a result. Next up is the major showdown with the Michigan Wolverines, where the Buckeyes will try to end a four-game losing streak to the team up north.
Ever since Ohio State beat the Texas Longhorns to open the season, they have sat at No. 1 in essentially every poll. Since the College Football Playoff rankings began a few weeks ago, the Buckeyes have remained in the top spot with little debate. If they want to stay there and earn a first-round bye, they’ll need to snap their losing streak against Michigan.
Ohio State Buckeyes remain No. 1 in latest College Football Playoff rankings
The latest CFP rankings dropped at 7 p.m. ET, and the Buckeyes once again hold the No. 1 spot, with the Indiana Hoosiers and Texas A&M Aggies right behind them. If the playoff were to begin today, Ohio State would receive a first-round bye and then face the winner of the No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners vs. No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish matchup.
Ohio State’s first order of business, however, remains taking care of Michigan and advancing to the Big Ten Championship Game. The Buckeyes can’t afford a loss to Michigan, or they’ll fall short of heading to Indianapolis to face the Hoosiers for the conference title. With multiple Big Ten teams sitting atop the CFP rankings, there’s bound to be significant movement following championship weekend.
The rankings don’t mean much at the moment, but the Buckeyes couldn’t be in a better position. Ohio State has been perfect since last November’s regular-season loss to Michigan, and everything they want is still right in front of them.
