Ohio State is on top of the college football world thanks to their four-game run over the last month.

The Buckeyes topped their College Football Playoff run off with a 34-23 National Championship win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Monday night.

Ohio State put the game away late with a field goal drive to extend the lead to two possessions. On third-and-long, Howard dropped back and hit star freshman WR Jeremiah Smith for 56 yards on a go ball to all but seal the game.

“They were expecting us to run the ball and we could’ve been conservative, but I loved the play call from Coach Day,” said Howard on Wednesday at Raising Cane’s, where he and Jack Sawyer both worked an event. “When it comes to a play like that, there isn’t anyone better than number four. So much credit to Jeremiah [Smith] – he’s unreal.”

The Buckeyes felt that Notre Dame was expecting a run and would send the house to stop it. That left Smith alone on an island and Ohio State likes their chances anytime that matchup comes about.

Howard only got one season in Columbus, but he made it worth it in a big way. The Kansas State transfer will always be remembered as a National Championship-winning quarterback in Columbus.

“Bringing the championship home to Columbus is unbelievable. Coming home from the win, it was really cool getting off the planes and buses and we were completely swarmed,” said Howard. “That tells you what it means to the fanbase and the people of Columbus, and that’s amazing. I don’t think I could have made a better decision for myself – I’m so glad God made me a Buckeye and that we were able to get it done.”
