Will Howard could not have dreamed of his graduate year in college football going any better than it did with Ohio State. After deciding to leave Kansas State after four seasons, Howard started 16 games for the Buckeyes on the way to a National Championship win.
Howard stepped up and was the exact quarterback that was needed following Kyle McCord’s departure to Syracuse following the 2023 season.
Now, Howard is preparing to make a leap to the NFL after a season in Columbus. The dominant College Football Playoff run helped Howard’s stock a bunch, as did his year in Columbus as a whole. However, Buckeye fans may not exactly like where Howard goes in the latest three-round 2025 mock draft from A to Z Sports.
Will Howard lands with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third-round at No. 83 overall
Naturally, the majority of Ohio State fans root for the Cleveland Browns or Cincinnati Bengals when it comes to the NFL. Howard gets a chance to go back to his home state and develop into their franchise quarterback. Prior to the CFP, Howard wouldn’t have been selected before Day 3 even in a poor QB draft. The few extra games boosted his stock with excellent play against good competition on the big stage.
Pittsburgh may bring back Justin Fields to be their starter in 2025, or at least give him the chance to take the job and run. The Steelers operated with Russell Wilson for most of 2024 but hit their ceiling with him and finished the season with a rough stretch of games. If Fields comes back in free agency and Howard ends up in Pittsburgh, it would be a Buckeye QB room for the Steelers.
Howard threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns, and added seven rushing touchdowns. The former Kansas State transfer doesn’t turn the ball over a ton, which Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin would covet.
A chance in the NFL will be deserved for Howard and ending up in Pennsylvania would be a unique story for him. However, many Buckeye fans won’t be fond of where he plays pro ball if this were to happen.
