Ohio State survived a real upset scare against Nebraska and held on for a 21-17 victory to move to 6-1. Now, the Buckeyes have a big task in front of them and that is a game on the road with Penn State.
Ohio State will have to pick it up on offense against Penn State if they want to avoid dropping their second game of the season. One player who is already looking forward to the game is no other than quarterback Will Howard and for good reason.
“It’s going to be a homecoming for me,” said Howard after the win over Nebraska. “I grew up a Penn State fan. I wanted to go there my whole life. They didn’t think I was good enough, but I guess we’ll see next week if I was."
Howard is from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and played his high school ball at Downingtown West. Coming out of high school, Howard was a three-star prospect and held 12 offers. Penn State never extended an offer to the Pennsylvania kid back in the class of 2020. The Nittany Lions very well could use this as bulletin board material.
Howard played his first four years at Kansas State and has never gotten the chance to play the Nittany Lions. Next Saturday he will get that opportunity in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Against Nebraska, Howard completed 13-of-16 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns. He threw his third interception of the season as well.
On the season, Howard is up to 1,574 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and three interceptions. It is worth pointing out that the Buckeyes gave snaps to reserve quarterbacks late in each of the first four games of the season.
Penn State is a big task as the No. 3 ranked team in the country and 6-0 on the season. The Nittany Lions’ best win so far is a 21-7 win over Illinois. Interestingly enough, Penn State quarterback Drew Allar would love to beat the Buckeyes surely as he is an Ohio native.
Ohio State is going to need Howard to step up and make some big throws against the Nittany Lions. If Howard can do that, he should be able to hand the home-state team a loss.
Nebraska’s Matt Rhule made an honest admission about Ohio State that Buckeye Nation will appreciate
More than just the football team had an impact.
