The Ohio State Buckeyes have their quarterback for 2025. As Will Howard exits, Julian Sayin steps into the projected starting role. There's plenty of hype regarding his future in Columbus.
However, past Sayin, there are plenty of questions regarding the team's plan at QB. With the transfer portal, Ryan Day has more options at his disposal, but landing another "big fish" in the 2026 HS recruiting cycle could be a major development for the Buckeyes.
One of their most notable 2026 options became available, through his recent de-commitment, from an ACC foe recently.
Smigiel de-commits from FSU, considering Buckeyes
Five-star quarterback Brady Smigiel has de-commited from Florida State. Ohio State is one of the main schools he will consider going forward.
Smigiel is certainly an option for the Buckeyes in the 2026 cycle. He is the 36th-ranked overall recruit in the ESPN ranking system. The young QB committed to the Seminoles in June.
A three-year starter at Newbury Park (California) High School, Smigiel led the program to a 14-1 record and a division title this past fall while throwing for 3,521 yards and 49 touchdowns in his junior season. Equipped with a strong arm, standout downfield accuracy and an ability to move within the pocket, Smigiel totaled 7,701 passing yards and 98 touchdowns across his first two high school campaigns in 2022 and 2023. — ESPN
Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina, Washington, UCLA, and Michigan State headline the group of teams that stand out to him as of now. He's expected to land at one of those schools by the end of his recruitment.
Smigiel is widely considered a top-flight pocket passer in his class, and the Buckeyes certainly share interest in the QB. He spent time with Buckeyes offensive coordinator Chip Kelly recently, after OSU won the National Championship.
We will see how the dominoes fall to complete the QB cycle in 2026, but Smigiel is a name to keep an eye on for Buckeye fans.
