Cooper Hackett is one of the best recruits in the 2027 class, and Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners couldn’t be happier that they landed him. He is one of the most coveted offensive linemen in the country, and Oklahoma pulled out all the stops to see that.

There’s no secret that the Sooners had one of the worst offensive lines in the country in 2024, and improved it drastically in 2025. Now, they will have another elite tackle in Hackett to potentially follow up Michael Fasusi. Hackett is trying to get other elite 2027 recruits to join him. That’s normal, though—we seen commits doing their own recruiting all the time.

What sets Hackett apart is the way he’s approaching recruitment. He posted a highlight tape of himself from this past basketball season and tagged 2027 targets Seneca Driver, Gabriel Osborne, and Kamieon Compton-Nero. In the caption, Hackett told these fellow dual-sport athletes—who are also very good at basketball—that together, they could make a great intramural team.

Sooners love to target dual-sport athletes

Driver, a 6’6 two-sport athlete in football and basketball, recently made a notable play in the latter. While playing for Boyle County High School in Danville, Kentucky, Driver executed an impressive putback dunk. The 240-pound tight end caught his teammates off guard with the slam. He is currently projected to land with the Kentucky Wildcats, his home-state team, with Oklahoma trailing behind Cincinnati and Notre Dame.

Similarly, the Sooners have long pursued Gabriel Osborne, the No. 11 cornerback in the 2027 class and the No. 3 player in Oklahoma. Osborne also stands out as a basketball player at Mustang High School, underscoring his versatility as a dual-sport athlete. While Rivals projects Oklahoma in the lead, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Ohio State remain strong contenders. Osborne recently showcased his multi-sport talent by demonstrating his athleticism on the basketball court.

During a recent Mustang boys’ basketball game against Edmond Memorial, Osborne took the ball on a fast break and threw down a dunk over a defender. The play was so powerful that he fell to the ground afterward, putting Mustang up 39-22 late in the third quarter. The Broncos went on to win the game.

With talent like this, it’s clear this intramural team would be almost unfair to face.
