The Oklahoma Sooners have struggled with the recruitment and development of their tight ends over the last few years, both in the high school and transfer portal.

Looking to reverse this trend, the Sooners have two tight ends committed in the 2026 recruiting class. Four-star Tyler Ruxer headlines the class, while three-star Ryder Mix joins as a player with notable blocking potential. Shifting focus to the 2027 class, the Sooners haven’t landed a commitment yet, but have extended 12 offers to tight ends. Among these, one tight end they are particularly interested in is Seneca Driver, who recently demonstrated remarkable athleticism—showing why the Sooners should push harder for him.

Seneca Driver has amazing basketball play

Driver, who’s a 6’6 two-sport athlete in football and basketball, had a pretty awesome play in the latter. Playing for Boyle County High School in Danville, Kentucky, Driver had a putback dunk that was more than impressive to see. The 240-pound tight end caught his teammates off guard and slammed it in. The dunk tied the game 49-49 with 42.9 seconds to go. Unfortunately for him, they lost in overtime.

Following his standout performance, Driver is currently being projected to land with the Kentucky Wildcats, his home-state team. The Sooners appear to have the fourth-best odds, trailing behind Cincinnati and Notre Dame.

As the recruitment battles continue, of the 12 tight ends the Sooners have offered, two are projected to land with OU. Titus Hawk and Ben Kolar, both four-star tight ends, have drawn strong interest from the Sooners, which seems to be reciprocated. For Hawk, OU must contend with ND for the No. 5 player in Oklahoma. For Kolar, Iowa State is the main competitor for the Norman native.

Amid these efforts, having Jason Witten, a legendary tight end, as the new tight ends coach certainly helps the program’s recruiting efforts.
