The Oklahoma Sooners are making a strong push for their 2026 recruiting class after a down year with their 2025 class. The Sooners already have four commitments lined up in their '26 class, currently ranked 23rd in the country.
It sounds like the Sooners could be adding even more talent to their class. Rivals' National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman logged a prediction for the Sooners to add three-star wide receiver Mason James out of Oklahoma.
James is the third-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma according to 247Sports' Composite rankings. He plays just down the street from the Sooners at Norman North High School, and the Sooners were the first school to offer him.
However, other schools are interested in the talented speedster. Michigan, Missouri, Washington, Kansas State, and Arizona State have all set up visits throughout the spring and summer.
The Sooners feel good about keeping James in Oklahoma though. He has taken several visits to campus already. Just this year, he visited in January and will return in the spring as well as an official visit in June.
James is a coveted target for wide receivers coach Emmett Jones and has developed a good relationship with another target of the Oklahoma Sooners in wide receiver Aljour Miles. The two of them could be part of a package deal and help the Sooners continue their strong track record of wide receiver recruiting.
The key for the Sooners will be to have the offense back on track as one of the best in college football. Oklahoma had back-to-back top-ten offenses in 2022 and 2023 before 2024 saw them produce their worst offensive season perhaps ever. The Sooners hired a new offensive coordinator in Ben Arbuckle to turn the ship around.
If Oklahoma can return to their offensive heights, there should be a huge resurgence in their recruiting presence. That could help them earn and keep Mason James committed to the Sooners through Signing Day, even as other teams circle and try to lure him away.
