Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners staff really nailed one huge thing in their 2025 recruiting class, and when I say huge, I’m not exaggerating.

Michael Fasusi, the prized possession of the Sooners’ 2025 class, is on campus and about to start fall camp. This is a guy that Venables had to have, and once offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle got involved, he had to have, too. As a senior in high school, you could have looked at him and thought he could start a few games in college for some pretty big programs.

Maybe at that time, he wasn’t ready to start yet at an SEC school, where the trenches are the most important and biggest thing that sets the conference apart. But, now, after a full offseason of training with the Sooners, and fall camp starting this weekend, Fasusi could end up being a starter in 2025-26.

In fact, I think most fans want to see that, because, like I said, he’s the prized possession, as the five-star tackle is set to be a cornerstone piece of the offense for years to come. Luckily for him, the Sooners struggled up front last year, so he should get a chance to prove himself.

Ben Abuckle says Michael Fasusi will get opportunities

“Michael is going to have a lot of opportunities to grow this fall camp. When you’re that young and you step into this game, the biggest thing is going to be the reps he gets and how he maximizes those reps,” offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle told reporters just before kicking off fall camp.

There are a handful of media people who think Fasusi could be starting at one of the tackle spots by Week 2, when the Sooners are set to play the Michigan Wolverines. And, that’s not because people think the offensive line will be bad, or that Logan Howland or Derreck Simmons, the two projected starters, will be bad. It could just mean that Fasusi will get an opportunity because of injuries.

Fasusi is a guy that people think could be a generational type of tackle if all goes well. There are people who think Fasusi could put his name up there with guys like Trent Williams and Lane Johnson, as some of the recent but best Soones of all time at that spot. So, yes, we want to see him get some opportunities.

And better yet, we want to see Fasusi get better. It seems like the staff, as well as Abuckle, have confidence that he can make something happen. Now, only time will tell what kind of role he will carve out for himself.
