Brent Venables and the Sooners may have just won themselves one of the most coveted players in the 2027 class
Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners will find out if they landed Peyton Houston on September 15.
Week 2 was a huge week for the Oklahoma Sooners football program. They beat the Michigan Wolverines, which then started a flurry of great news regarding recruiting, whether it is the 2026 or 2027 class. In this case, it’s the 2027 class, as Peyton Houston has announced his commitment date for September 15, and he’s been predicted to commit to the Sooners.
Houston is one of the best quarterbacks in the 2027 class and a highly coveted player overall.
Sooners would have a loaded QB room in 2027 if all goes well
If everything stays the same, and the Sooners do end up landing Houston, 2027 would have them with one of the more loaded QB rooms in the entire country, if not the most loaded. By then, and mind you, this is if everything happens the way we think it will, then Michael Hawkins will be a starter, with Bowe Bentley set to soon take over, and Houston ready to take over after that.
Houston is very, very good and is only expected to get much better. Last season, he broke the high school passing yards record for yards in a game with almost 900 passing yards. Yes, you read that right, almost 900. Houston can throw the ball, but don’t let that stat line fool you; he has some legs on him, too.
The Sooners have been wanting him for some time, and it seems like they’ve really made a great impression on him as of late.
“I could see the high standards they hold their players to,” Houston told Steve Wiltfong of Rivals. “The energy at practice was very upbeat, and it’s exciting to know that with the OU Soul Mission program, I’ll be supported both on and off the field. I saw how Coach Arbuckle tailors the offense to fit the QB’s strengths. I also got the chance to sit and recap my visit with Coach V. Overall, it was a fantastic visit, and I’m already looking forward to returning!”
Of course, this comes after the win over the Michigan Wolverines. That win did a ton for the Sooners program when it comes to recruiting. We have seen four-star 2027 wide receiver Demare Dezeurn commit after the win, and now there could be another in Houston.
