The Oklahoma Sooners spent their bye week still getting wins, and they didn’t even play anybody. They are now the No. 5 team in the country by the Associated Press’ poll, so it was a good week.

Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman has logged an expert prediction for the Sooners to land 2027 four-star cornerback Mikhail McCreary, who would be an amazing addition to the 2027 class that is currently on fire, with Cooper Hackett and Kaeden Penny recently committing. Now, they could add another four-star guy.

“At Oklahoma, it’s the tradition of Coach V putting out great defenses and great players,” McCreary told rivals. “They’ve shown me a clear plan for my development and future. Also, Coach Venables has the defense playing lights out. I would say they brought the consistency and communication over the phone to real life … they show real love. This was my first Oklahoma game, and it was definitely a great experience. They’re definitely on the top of my list.”

Sooners need McCreary to maintain top class

The 2027 class is listed as the second-best class so far on On3. But there is still a long way to go. It’s unrealistic to think the Sooners will continue to land a ton of five-star recruits. However, they can continue to put together a ton of four-star recruits, and McCreary is one of them.

Right now, the Sooners have Hackett, who’s a five-star offensive lineman, a four-star offensive lineman in Penny, a four-star wide receiver in Demare Dezeurn, and a three-star offensive lineman in Luke Wilson. Getting McCreary would be their first defensive player of the cycle.

McCreary is athletic and smart at the position. He has ball skills and can shut down one side of the field. There seems to be hope that one day it could translate to the college level, too.

Oklahoma seems to be a good destination for him because of the homegrown talent in that room right now under Brent Venables. True freshman CB Courtland Guillory is the best guy on the team at his position, and plays a ton. McCreary may be looking at that situation and wants a similar opportunity.
