The Oklahoma Sooners have been on a heater when it comes to recruiting. Since general manager Jim Nagy has really gotten his hands dirty in the recruiting side of things, this team has been recruiting at a different level, whether it’s the back end of the 2026 class or the start of a 2027 class that is already ranked No. 1 in the country.

Now, as the 2026 class gets closer and closer to closing, the Sooners are trying to add some talent there. They just flipped a few guys from other schools and have the No. 19 class in 2026. They’re not done just yet, as they’re targeting a few other flips, like Penn State RB commit Messiah Mickens. And now, they’re trying to go after a guy who just started playing football, far before any other schools catch on to what they’re doing.

Sooners send offer to 6’7 offensive lineman Jonas Muya

Muya just started playing football a year ago. He’s actually a 6’7 forward/center recruit in basketball, ranked as a three-star in basketball. And maybe this kid has the potential to be a two-sport athlete. However, the Sooners like him as an offensive lineman in football, at 280 pounds.

At that weight to play in the SEC, he will have to put on some pounds. He needs to be around 300 pounds, if not heavier than that. The weight he’s currently at is much more of a big tight end type of weight. The Sooners, seeing how much they have struggled on the offensive line their first two years in the SEC, can’t have that. Their current roster doesn’t have a single player under 300 pounds on the offensive line.

Muya has offers from Minnesota, Cincinnati, Miami of Ohio, Purdue, and now Oklahoma. So, you can tell that OU is trying to get ahead of the trend of grabbing a guy who they think could be something. You don’t just give anyone an offer to Oklahoma. You especially don’t just hand out OL offers — they have to be good. OL coach Bill Bedenbaugh is the best of the best, especially in recruiting.

Muya could be something for all we know. Whatever it is the Sooners want to do with him, they think he is good enough to attend Oklahoma.
