The Oklahoma Sooners are now 5-1 in 2025, but the season is far from over. Just like safety Peyton Bowen said, when is the last time an undefeated team won the National Championship? Well, 2023, but that’s besides the point – OU can still make the College Football Playoffs. If they address their offensive issues, they can still have a chance to win the Championship.

If that happens, they’d be just like their neighbors, the Oklahoma City Thunder, who, now that everyone entering the city, or coming to an OU home game, will know are 2025 World Champions.

Oklahoma City puts up a city limits sign showing off the OKC Thunder

Most Sooners fans are also Oklahoma City Thunder fans, as Norman, Oklahoma, is essentially a suburb of the Oklahoma City area, and the Thunder are the only professional sports team based in OKC. Now the Thunder’s fan base is only going to grow even bigger, as in the 2024-25 NBA season, OKC won the NBA Finals, so they’re World Champions.

According to Damon Lane, the Chief Meteorologist for KOCO, on a sign on I-35 leaving Moore, Oklahoma, heading into South OKC, there is a city limits sign that reads “Home of the 2025 NBA Champions” at the bottom of the official road sign.

The Thunder are one of the youngest teams in NBA history, and they just won the NBA Finals with the MVP in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was also the Finals MVP and the scoring champion. Not to mention, they have two great all-star caliber players next to him in Jalen Williams, or J-Dub, as he’s formally known, and Chet Holmgren.

OKC is a homegrown team. They didn’t sign any superstars in free agency, unless you count Isaiah Hartenstein and Alex Caruso as superstars, and they didn’t trade for any. Instead, they drafted everyone and traded for SGA after his rookie year, when they weren’t certain he would be what he is today.

This team, with practically the same exact roster in 2025-26, has the potential to win again this season, and then they would add another sign under the new one they just added. Every fan who travels in for Sooners games could get a good welcome.
