Every SEC fan base is passionate about its team, just like the Oklahoma Sooners fan base is about its team. So, after losing games, you will always see the other fan base go on social media and complain about how their team was robbed because of one individual play that wasn’t called right by the referees.

In the case of the Alabama Crimson Tide, who lost to the Sooners on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, their fan base believes the game was heavily influenced by officiating. The one play that seems to be making the rounds the most on social media is Taylor Wein’s field goal tip. He jumped over Alabama’s blockers and tipped the field goal that they missed. Some Alabama fans believe that’s illegal, and it’s not.

The rule that fans seem to be thinking of is that you cannot get a head start away from the line of scrimmage and run to jump over blockers to block the field goal. Wein did not do that. The rule states that if you are stationary at the line of scrimmage, you may jump over the blockers. That’s what Wein did, which is really even more impressive.

Taylor Wein is playing like the best player on the Sooners

What Wein did is even more impressive because of the athleticism you have to have to stay stationary and leap over the defenders while blocking the field goal. That is just one of the many examples of him being one of the Sooners’ best players.

The season didn’t start that way for Wein at Oklahoma. The former three-star recruit was actually second and even third at times on the depth chart.

However, he played and practiced well enough to earn playing time, and now, in the last few weeks, he has consistently been one of the best players on the team, even though the box score may not always reflect that.

Oklahoma needed Wein this last week in a major way. R Mason Thomas, who is probably the best defensive player on the team, was out with a quad injury. Wein had the field goal tip, a tackle for loss in the run game, and a sack. He’s playing out of his mind right now, and it will end up getting him drafted in a year or two. Next, he will be needed against the Missouri Tigers and the LSU Tigers to close out the season.
