The Oklahoma Sooners are continuing to make a hard push into their 2026 recruiting class, and they could be landing a high-priority target here soon from right down the street.

Top wide receiver target Mason James, a local recruit from Norman North high school, has become a top target for Brent Venables and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones. James is fresh off of a stellar junior season where he caught 56 passes for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns.

James is the third-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma according to 247Sports' Composite rankings. He's visited the Sooners numerous times and could be making his decision soon.

"I am going off feeling," James told On3 in an interview. "I was at one time thinking I would commit after I take my official visits, but I could make my decision this spring. They were the first to offer me, and from the start, Oklahoma has been there, they have been consistent, and they have shown me I am important to them. That consistency has shown me a lot."

However, the Sooners aren't alone in a hot pursuit of James. Missouri, Washington, Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, and Michigan have all made offers, and James has made positive visits with most of those schools.

The Sooners remain confident in their chances to land James. If James does announce his commitment in the spring before any other teams can lock in an official visit, Oklahoma has to be fairly sure of their chances to secure and lock down James's commitment.

Oklahoma currently has the 30th-ranked recruiting class in 247Sports' Composite Rankings, with just four commits currently announced. A commitment from James would be some much-needed momentum in boosting that class back to the Sooners' normal standards in the top ten.
