The Oklahoma Sooners have slowly but surely rebuilt their 2026 recruiting class after a very slow start. Their class, at one point, mainly consisted of just four-star wide receiver Daniel Odom. However, a summer spree in recruiting saw the Sooners catch fire, adding 21 more recruits from May to October, and Oklahoma now sits with the 18th-ranked class in 2026.

That’s not the rank they wish to finish with, and they are gunning hard to finish the class on a high note in pursuing some late rising talent or taking advantage of trying to flip recruits who are committed to other schools that haven’t had the same level of success that the Sooners have had this season.

One of those specific recruits should be their next top priority to add to their ever-growing 2026 recruiting class. Based on his senior film, he has the ability to be a top playmaker for the Sooners, and based on his prior recruiting, he and Oklahoma have some mutual interest, and that should have fans excited.

Jayden Petit is a game changer

The Oklahoma Sooners have added plenty of wide receiver talent in the 2026 class, with Daniel Odom, Xavier Okwufulueze, Jahsier Rogers, and Brayden Allen all committed. However, I think their latest priority recruit in four-star Jayden Petit could be the best of all of them, and his senior numbers are backing that up.

At the end of his senior regular season, Petit has caught 54 passes for 1,224 yards and 22(!) touchdowns. He’s decimated the competition in Florida and looks like one of the best vertical threats in the class. Petit’s massive 6’4, 215-pound frame gives him a fantastic catch radius and he shows off elite body control and hands with the ball in the air with ease. On top of that, he’s a fluid threat with the ball in his hands and can pick up yards after the catch surprisingly well for a guy at 6’4.

The Sooners simply don’t have a guy like that right now, and Petit could change that for them. Currently, Petit is committed to Wisconsin, but the Badgers are staring down the barrel of a 2-10 season, and he already visited Oklahoma during their game against Ole Miss.

Fans shouldn’t care what it takes, Petit has to be a player that head coach Brent Venables, general manager Jim Nagy, and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones pull out all the stops to secure his commitment. He has the upside to be a game-changer for their offense, and the connection between him and fellow 2026 recruit and current Sooners commit quarterback Bowe Bentley could be the building block of Oklahoma’s offense for years to come.
