The Oklahoma Sooners started out the transfer portal in a pretty gruesome way. They started losing players left and right, and it felt like they didn't gain a player through the portal within the first week. Now, that may be a tad bit dramatic, but that's how it felt. Other teams went to work straight away so that certainly doesn't help.

2025 looks like it could be a great season, but it also looks like it could be a bad year. The roster they have already put together has some positives and some negatives, even though it's nowhere near finished. One of the reasons it's looking that way is the number of solid players who are leaving.

I mean, everyone is leaving, even the punters. But, with Jacob Ulrich now in town, the Sooners even have a weird situation there.

Oklahoma Sooners lose punter

Last season, the Oklahoma Sooners' punter situation was highlighted by the performance of Luke Elzinga, who transferred from Central Michigan. Elzinga was named to the Ray Guy Award watch list, indicating his potential as one of the nation's top punters. His background included being a three-time All-MAC honoree, which set high expectations for his performance in Oklahoma.

He averaged 42.4 yards per punt over his career at Central Michigan, with a notable ability to pin opponents inside their 20-yard line, having done so 22 times in his last season there. At Oklahoma, he was expected to fill the shoes of Michael Turk, who had been a key player in special teams for the Sooners in previous years. Elzinga's performance was anticipated to aid the Sooners in improving their directional punting and field position strategy.

Ashton Logan was also on the team but didn't win the punter battle and didn't play. Earlier this week, he entered the transfer portal.

Luckily, the Sooners already have their replacement at the position.
