The Oklahoma Sooners former Heisman Trophy winner, Kyler Murray, is on a roll right now in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals. One of the most loved Sooners to play in recent memory is one of the best players in the world. Yes, Murray has had his issues in the past, but this season he has been one of the best QBs in the league.
And, on Sunday against the New York Jets, after seeing his alma mater lose to the Missouri Tigers, he went nuclear and had one of the best games of the week of any player.
Murray was on one.
“I think he's doing what he's coached to do, and he's got guys around him making a lot of plays—I know that," Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said. "Which it's good to see, so he doesn't have to do it all. When he has the ball in his hands, as a defensive guy, anytime he gets a snap you're hanging onto your you-know-what. I thought he was lights out today.”
Murray completed 22 of 24 passes on Sunday, the best passing game completion-wise of his career, and the best completion game of the week by any player. He threw for 266 yards and a touchdown, rushed three times for 21 yards with two rushing touchdowns, and had a passer rating of 126.7.
Murray was on one and just torched the Jets' defense over and over again. The defense that was considered one of the best in the league, well, he went and dropped 31 points on them.
“The guys did a hell of a job upfront," said Murray. "My job is to just put the ball in their hands and let them do what they do. Try to get completions, and that’s what I did today. I try to just keep it as simple as possible. The guys made plays for me all day. It was great to go out there and feel the way we felt today. To be able to execute, it felt like no matter what they did. We had a good day today offensively.”
Murray had an amazing touchdown pass to rookie Marvin Harrison Jr., too. He was in a flow state that was just different, similar to what we always used to see when he was at Oklahoma. He's had good seasons in the NFL, but he's also had some bad games that have caused people to question whether he really loves the game.
He's had off-the-field things that have made people question his love for the game too. This season he has really locked in and taken over. This has been a big-time season for him so far, and now the Cardinals are 6-4 and leading the NFC West. They play the Seattle Seahawks next before facing the Minnesota Vikings.
The Cardinals are currently first in the NFC West over teams that were picked to finish above them like the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams.
