Former Oklahoma Sooners starter is back in Norman after moving on to another team during 2024 season
The Oklahoma Sooners could have really used a quarterback last season. Sure, it didn't all fall on Jackson Arnold and Michael Hawkins — the offense as a whole was pretty bad. The Oklahoma Sooners could have really used a quarterback last season. Sure, it didn't all fall on Jackson Arnold and Michael Hawkins — the offense as a whole was pretty bad. However, those two certainly had their moments, moments that shouldn't have happened, like Hawkins' start against South Carolina.
The scheme was terrible, the playcalling was worse, and the personnel wasn't great. You factor that in with all of the injuries the Sooners had, and they were just horrid. But, it certainly would have helped had they had a quarterback with a ton of experience. Someone like, I don't know — Dillon Gabriel.
They had him in 2023, and their offense was much better than it was this last year. The Sooners had an experienced quarterback who could sling it, use his legs, and had a great IQ, as we saw this year with the Oregon Ducks. They really, really missed that in 2024. Luckily, Gabriel came back.

Kidding, obviously.
He's back in Norman working out, throwing to his former receiver and now Los Angeles Rams receiver Drake Stoops, using Oklahoma's facilities. And, this just goes to show that the narrative of the Sooners pushing him away, just does, as he came back to work out. The splitting of the two sides was mutual, as evidence now proves that.
Gabriel isn't being looked at as a highly drafted quarterback in this upcoming draft, but he is a guy who could very well get drafted. There are plenty of teams looking for a quarterback in this draft. Who knows, he could end up with a team like the Las Vegas Raiders or Seattle Seahawks, for all we know.
Could Oklahoma Sooners’ defensive superstar be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft?
Much has been made about the relative talent of the 2025 NFL Draft, especially at the top. Multiple scouts have claimed that the true first-round talents of the draft class don't even exceed 10 players, which is going to push guys up into the first-round conversation despite positional value. This is good for players like […]
