Sooners officially lose one of their most promising players who has a legit shot at NFL success to a Power 4 school
The Sooners are going to miss Omosigho.
The Oklahoma Sooners addressed several needs through the transfer portal this offseason. Losing players, especially at linebacker, created new gaps. Kobi McKinzie and Sammy Omosigho entered the portal early, and Oklahoma signed former Michigan Wolverines LB Cole Sullivan to fill the void. On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Omosigho would join UCLA.
Sammy Omosigho could be a great NFL linebacker with more development
Omosigho was a highly promising young linebacker with strong tackling and playmaking skills, making his departure a significant loss for Oklahoma’s depth and future potential at the position.
Now that he’s heading to UCLA, Omosigho will have the chance to be their star linebacker. Oklahoma is losing out on a player whose athleticism and on-field instincts suggested he could have developed into a top performer with NFL potential. If he continues to progress at UCLA, his impact may become even more apparent, and his draft stock for the 2027 NFL Draft could be great.
Looking at his journey so far, Omosigho has one year of eligibility left. He has 96 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and two sacks in three seasons with the Sooners. Albeit, those stats have all come in limited snaps. He’s been stuck behind guys like Kip Lewis for the majority of his time with the Sooners, so a new team makes sense with Lewis possibly coming back. What’s made Omosigho such a loved player by fans is his personality, as he’s goofy and often the star of a ton of social content the Sooners make.
Because of Omosigho’s departure, Oklahoma will also miss the elite depth that he brought. One of the reasons the Sooners had such an elite defense last season is that they could constantly rotate guys in and out, and the backups were just as good, or would be star players on other teams. Omosigho is one of those types of players from the last two seasons.
Fans across social media have expressed support for Omosigho’s next chapter.
