Former Sooners QB Jackson Arnold could finally be heading towards the perfect situation for his career
This would be the perfect landing spot for Arnold.
Former Oklahoma Sooners five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold is now set to play on his third team in three years. Arnold is entering his fourth season, but because of a redshirt season in his first year at Oklahoma, he’s been granted another year to play.
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, UNLV has emerged as an early candidate and front-runner to land Arnold in the transfer portal.
UNLV is the perfect situation and team for Arnold in 2026
At UNLV, Arnold can work with head coach Dan Mullen, who just took the Rebels to a bowl game. Mullen has worked with some very good quarterbacks throughout his career, whether at Mississippi State or with the Florida Gators. Now, we will see if he can turn Arnold into an elite quarterback, that is, if he goes there.
Mullen also runs an offense that would allow Arnold to have the most success possible. Not to mention, the talent level isn’t as high. So, this is honestly the perfect situation for him.
After the disastrous 2024 season in Oklahoma, Arnold transferred to Auburn. This season started the same way the Sooners’ season did the year prior, with him. He started well against the lower-level competition the two SEC schools faced, but when SEC play began, the mistakes were magnified.
Arnold was basically just an extra running back, and at times, that’s all Hugh Freeze did with Arnold — run the ball. It seemed like Freeze was scared to let Arnold throw. Arnold had some plays here and there, but with elite receivers Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton, he didn’t have as many as he should. Not to mention, an issue he had in Oklahoma, holding on to the ball too long, was again an issue.
If he goes to UNLV, a G5 school, and still plays badly, it’s hard to say what would happen after that. However, there have recently been some quarterbacks at UNLV on their second or third chance who have revived their careers a bit. That’s one of the ways Jayden Maiava, the USC Trojans QB, got where he is now.
