Jaren Kanak has the best possible response to people laughing at him about a silly play he had vs. Auburn
Jaren Kanak and the Oklahoma Sooners escape with a win over the Auburn Tigers.
On Saturday, the Oklahoma Sooners barely escaped their home stadium with a win over the Auburn Tigers. While everyone was arguing about the terrible officiating, tight end Jaren Kanak was busy doing flying knees into the opponent’s face. No, really, he tried to hurdle a defender, and it just didn’t go well.
“I don’t want to talk about it, alright,” Kanak said with a smile on his face. “I thought I had hops, I thought I had bunnies. White men still can’t jump. It turned into a cool flying knee, I guess. Maybe next week. Or, maybe two weeks from now.”
It’s a meme and a great laugh right now, and it will be when we look back at the season when it’s over, but make no mistake about it, Kanak is the real deal at the tight end position.
Sooners TE Jaren Kanak continues to prove everyone wrong
When it was announced that Kanak would be making the switch from linebacker to tight end, everyone laughed, whether it was laughing at him or at the Sooners for having that “bad” of a tight end room. So far, we are seeing that Kanak is great, especially in the pass game, and serviceable in the run game. He’s truly exceeding expectations.
Kanak is 30th in receiving yards in the country, and that’s of all wide receivers and tight ends. So, not too bad. He’s first among tight ends in receiving yards with 307. He’s also first on the Sooners in receiving yards, which says something considering the Sooners are 13th in the entire country in passing yards at 1,220.
Oklahoma is already 1,000 yards off of its 2024 total, which also helps give a representation of how much better the passing game is this year compared to last season. Kanak is a big reason why.
Kanak was also huge in this game, one where it was obvious neither team could run the ball. Mateer leaned on his weapons, and they responded well. Kanak is continuing to prove the doubters wrong, as he’s easily the best pass-catching tight end in college football at the moment.
