Oklahoma Sooners kicker Tate Sandell is making the most of his quick rise to fame in the best way possible
The Sooners have the best kicker in the country in Tate Sandell.
The Oklahoma Sooners have the best kicker in the country in Tate Sandell, and he’s quickly put everyone on notice. In their win over the Tennessee Volunteers on the road, Sandell was the talk of the town. “Who is the kicker with the short shorts?” Well, he’s the same kicker who is automatic from anywhere and is statistically the best in college football right now. Sandell also showed that it isn’t a fluke, as he did it against the Alabama Crimson Tide, too, also on the road.
Oklahoma kicker Tate Sandell is taking advantage of his rise to fame
After that Tennessee game, everyone knew who he was. It’s safe to say Sandell quickly became the most well-known kicker in college football, simply by making three fifty-yarders and going three for three on field goals, four for four on extra points. The short shorts certainly helped as well.
College Football analyst and broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit mentioned on that broadcast during the Tennessee game that, jokingly, Sandell should get a flag and penalty for his shorts being that high. Of course, Sandell responded to it with the perfect tweet.
Sandell then went on a podcast and told the story about how his shorts got so short. He didn’t know they were as short as they were, and actually ripped them. But it turned out to be his thing that he’s now recognized with. And he’s so recognized that he’s taking advantage of that quick rinse to fame.
Sandell is selling t-shirts with him kicking in short shorts, and the quote “Short Shorts, Long Kicks,” and of course, “Flag That Herbstreit,” on them, too. That is the perfect way to use your Name Image and Likeness, just like tight end Jaren Kanak did with the hats after taking his media day picture with his wiener dog.
Sandell is a smart man and a great kicker.
