Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin just can’t stop talking about Sooners HC Brent Venables even after the Oklahoma’s loss
Lane Kiffin once again turns nothing into something with a quote about Brent Venables.
There is a fun little rivalry brewing between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Ole Miss Rebels. Really, it seems like it’s between Rebels HC Lane Kiffin and Oklahoma HC Brent Venables. Before the game, Kiffin said that Venables is good at stealing signals, legally. After the game, Kiffin is, once again, turning nothing into something.
During Venables’ coaches show on YouTube, he mentioned that he felt like, going into the game, his team was better, and that they did not perform that way, considering the loss. An Ole Miss reporter told Kiffin that Venables thinks his team is better, and, well, you can already guess how this will go.

“That’s a hot take,” Kiffin said at the podium on Monday. “I wouldn’t have thought people watching would say that.. I think we should’ve won by a couple of scores… Interesting take. Whatever he needs to say. Maybe they had the better team last year when we beat them.
“Maybe he had the better team at Oklahoma when we beat them 55-19 in the National Championship. Maybe he had the better team at Clemson when we beat them 45-40 in the national championship at Alabama.”
I will never be the guy to ask Kiffin to stop being what Kiffin is. For one, it’s great for college football. He’s known for showmanship, even when it’s cringy. It’s good for the sport, and it’s good for this rivalry brewing over the next few years since Oklahoma will play them for the next four years.
However, I say all of that to say that the reporter should have said the question the right way to prevent these unnecessary things from happening. We all saw that Oklahoma was not the better team when it was all said and done. The defense didn’t play its best ball, and the offense definitely didn’t, with quarterback John Mateer playing pretty poorly.
Oklahoma now has to go into Neyland Stadium to play the Tennessee Volunteers.
