Ever since new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle arrived in Norman to coach the Oklahoma Sooners, he has made it his mission to bring in players that fit his vision on offense. One of the biggest moves was shifting his priority at quarterback.

The Sooners have held a commitment from 2026 four-star Jaden O'Neal for months, but that didn't stop the staff from shifting gears to focus on a new target in Texas product Bowe Bentley. Bentley has been a fast riser in the recruiting world, earning offers from all the major hitters in college football.

Over the weekend, it came out that Bentley had finally narrowed down his decision to two schools: the Sooners and LSU Tigers. Many have been worried that the rather cavalier approach at quarterback could cost the Sooners' staff a chance to bring in either of the quarterbacks; however, recent news on Bentley's recruiting could point to a major victory for the Sooners here.

According to Steve Wiltfong of On3, Bentley is changing the dates for his official visits to LSU and Oklahoma. Instead of LSU holding the oft-crucial final visit, Bentley has moved his official visit up to the end of May and will visit the Sooners last on June 6th.

While some could spin that as a sign of Bentley's excitement to visit LSU, holding the final visit for a recruit is often critical in recruiting. It gives the staff a chance to one-up the prior visit, as well as deliver the last impression a recruit has before deciding on their commitment.

It's not a perfect science, but more often than not, recruits have tended to choose their last visit when deciding their commitment.

If that trend holds up for the Sooners, it would be a massive win-both on and off the field. On the field, Bentley is a tremendous talent that I wouldn't be shocked to see earn a five-star rating by the time his recruiting process is finished. He has all the tools to be the face of the program for any school he chooses.

Off the field, Bentley is a crucial crowning gem for Oklahoma and could set off a domino effect that springs the rest of their 2026 recruiting class. It would also be a huge win for the recruiting prowess of both Brent Venables and Ben Arbuckle, and show the world that Oklahoma's still got it, even after a down year.

For now, it's a waiting game. The pressure is on for the Sooners' staff to deliver a memorable visit for Bentley on June 6th.
