Missouri may have just thrown a wrench in the Sooners’ game plan for a matchup that’s do or die for Oklahoma’s CFP chances
The Sooners might be playing against Missouri QB Beau Pribula.
The Oklahoma Sooners face a crucial Saturday game against the Missouri Tigers that could determine their College Football Playoff chances, making it a must-watch for fans.
After having been out the last few weeks with what was a dislocated ankle, the Tigers could start quarterback Beau Pribula on Saturday. This would throw a wrench into their plans, because everyone thought Zollers, the freshman quarterback who’s played the last few weeks, would be the guy on Saturday.
Beau Pribula could make the Tigers worse vs. the Oklahoma Sooners
According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Pribula is on schedule to start on Saturday, which could signal Missouri’s shift in strategy, though they could still hold him back to avoid risking further injury. Or, between now and then, Pribula could have a setback and not be ready. This could also be a gamesmanship tactic from Missouri head coach Eliah Drinkwitz.
Having Pribula start instead of the freshman QB, who wasn’t playing badly for a freshman, could make them worse. Pribula’s best attribute is his mobility. Not only is he a good runner, but he’s good inside the pocket with his feet, and he’s good getting outside the pocket to make some throws on the run.
This game will be his first game back since dislocating his ankle. I wouldn’t say I’d trust him to be immediately back to what he was, which was a petty elite level of football. Not being able to be as mobile against a team that has the best defensive line in football could be bad news for the Tigers.
But this is the SEC, and we all know anything can happen. Pribula could come out and look like Tom Brady. However it looks, the Sooners need to win this one, and then the LSU Tigers at home, too. After beating the Tennessee Volunteers and the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road, the Sooners are in a good position to make the CFP.
