Saturday is sure to be one of the best weekends in college football we have had this year. That is primarily because of the games we get to watch, packaged with what’s on the line. The Oklahoma Sooners are in the College Football Playoffs if they beat the Alabama Crimson Tide. They’re out if they don’t. You can say the same about the Texas Longhorns and their matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs.

So, it would be important that the Sooners have all hands on deck. However, knowing this team and what the program has been through over the last year or so with injuries, that’s just not going to happen. Wednesday’s availability report for the Sooners matchup provided us with a surprise. It was a surprise, though, as defensive tackle Jayden Jackson and a few others found themselves questionable.

Now, on Thursday’s report, another important name popped up in Gentry Williams, and he wasn’t on the injury report on Wednesday.

Sooners could be without one of their best cornerbacks in Gentry Williams

Thursday’s report had Williams as doubtful. We know that he has dealt with numerous injuries in his career, and when he has played, he has been quite good. However, against South Carolina a few weeks ago, Williams seemed to have a bad shoulder issue. He’s played since then, so this pop-up on the report is something unexpected.

Alabama has some of the best receivers in the country. In fact, they probably have the best trio in the country with Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard, and Isaiah Horton. You could even make the case that Lotzeir Brooks is the third guy based on some of the stats and distribution.

The Tide really spread the ball around well, which means they need as many bodies as they can get in that secondary. Williams has experience and is talented. Not to mention, the Sooners’ two best cornerbacks are Courtland Guillory, the true freshman, and Eli Bowen, the sophomore, and both are going to have their hands full.

The Sooners did not get the news they were wanting.
