Oklahoma Sooners keep ‘marching’ on, add an intriguing competitor to help reinforce weakest link at critical position group
The Oklahoma Sooners learned from their past, shore up their offensive line with another strong 2027 commitment
The month of March has been kind to the Oklahoma Sooners, as they have reeled in commitment after commitment. After pulling in six commitments in the first eight days of the month, the Sooners close the month out with another solid addition to their already elite 2027 class.
Three-star interior offensive lineman Isaac Coughran committed to the Sooners on Tuesday. Coughran chose the Sooners over Arizona, Baylor, and his hometown Houston.
Sooners moved fast to close the deal for Coughran
Interestingly enough, the Sooners were a late offer to Coughran. Oklahoma didn’t offer him until February 17th. However, they saw enough on his profile to push hard on landing his commitment to their star-studded class of 2027.
Coughran visited the Sooners on March 7th for Oklahoma’s “Future Freaks” weekend, and it was there that he was sold on Oklahoma’s vision for him and the culture surrounding the team. Coughran also praised offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh’s development of an NFL pipeline.
The No. 42 interior offensive lineman in the class is an intriguing prospect. He’s a strong, smooth athlete, and he has the pedigree of playing for an elite program like Katy. In high school, he mainly plays tackle, but his frame suggests his future would be best served with a move inside to guard.
He’s a powerful finisher, but his movement skills catch my eye. He’s particularly nimble when pulling and climbing to the second level, something that fits well with Oklahoma’s power-run game.
Coughran will be the Sooners’ fifth offensive line commit of the class of 2027 and their 20th commitment overall. He joins a class of Kaeden Penny, Cooper Hackett, Luke Wilson, and Tyson Ross. It will be interesting to see how many offensive linemen the Sooners take in this class, as they have been heavily involved with numerous linemen and still are pushing for more.
The Sooners have learned first hand that you can never have enough offensive line depth, and it seems like they are earnestly building out the trenches as a result.
