Oklahoma Sooners are already trying to get some more elite talent but this time it's for their 2027 class

The Oklahoma Sooners desperately need to fix their offense, especially if head coach Brent Venables wants to keep his job. Yes, that's blunt and probably harsh, but it's also the truth. We don't have to worry about the defense, we know they will perform at an elite level with Venables calling the shots. However, the offense was so bad last year that they turned a team with an elite defense into a bad team.

If they can just fix the offense everything will be great. They will be a team competing at the top of the SEC, just like we thought they would last year. But, that's easier said than done. They had so many issues last year, including some pretty crazy injuries, bad scheme and playcalling, and bad QB play.

But one of the biggest things was a bad offensive line. While we are still waiting to see what the 2025 class can do to help, the Sooners are already trying to get some elite recruits for their 2027 class.

Sooners trying to land 2027 OL Reis Russell

The Sooners attract elite offensive line talent due to the history of the program at the position, as well as offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh. They are now going after Reis Russell.

Russell is a high school football player from Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He’s part of the Class of 2027 and plays as an offensive lineman, sometimes switching to defensive lineman. He’s already playing varsity as a freshman and sophomore, showing he’s got a talent for a competitive team known for strong football in Colorado’s 5A division.

In 2023, Russell helped Valor Christian win games like 45-6 against Highlands Ranch, 21-3 against Castle View, and 41-7 against ThunderRidge, though they lost 13-20 to Legend High School in the playoffs. He’s tough and plays smart for his age.

Russell could be a big deal in Colorado football if he keeps improving. Valor Christian often sends players to college teams, and with two more years ahead, he’s got a shot at getting noticed by recruiters. The Sooners are trying to be early to the party.
