The Oklahoma Sooners released their initial depth chart ahead of their 2024 season opener on Sunday. While there were some surprises and interesting positional battles, one of the most intriguing parts of their depth chart was the number of freshmen.

The Sooners had a whopping 17 (!) freshmen appearing on their initial depth chart, a testament to the strength of their 2024 recruiting class.

Defensive tackle Jayden Jackson headlined that group as the only true freshman to be listed as a starter, but there were a few other notable freshmen listed throughout. Michael Hawkins beat out Casey Thompson as the QB2 behind Jackson Arnold, while Reggie Powers III is also seeing snaps at the "Cheetah" position on defense.

Oklahoma finished the 2024 recruiting class with the eighth-ranked class, according to 247Sports Composite Ranking. The Sooners' recruitment of 5-star DT David Stone, as well as the top running back in the class in Taylor Tatum and a top-three guard in Eugene Brooks helped anchor the class to a third-straight top-ten finish in 247Sports' class rankings.

Additionally, walk-on wide receiver Jacob Jordan from Southlake Carroll as well as three-star wide receiver KJ Daniels got the nod on the initial depth chart over the higher-ranked recruits in three-star Zion Ragins and four-star Ivan Carreon.

The Oklahoma Sooners are off to a hot start with their 2025 class as well, with the (currently) ninth-ranked class. The Sooners secured the commitment of OT Michael Fasusi, their highest-ranked offensive line recruit ever, last week.

With their 2024 class shaping up to see plenty of action and the 2025 class building up more momentum, Oklahoma's initial years in the SEC seem full of potential.
