Oklahoma Sooners OC Ben Arbuckle is already making the perfect impression on his new favorite weapon
Last season the Oklahoma Sooners had one of the worst offenses in the entire country. Then they fired offensive coordinator Seth Littrell. Now, it didn't get fixed, but it did get a tad bit better. They were still really bad on that side of the ball, but they were able to have a bit more […]
Last season the Oklahoma Sooners had one of the worst offenses in the entire country. Then they fired offensive coordinator Seth Littrell. Now, it didn't get fixed, but it did get a tad bit better. They were still really bad on that side of the ball, but they were able to have a bit more consistency, especially in the run game.
So, head coach Brent Venables brought Ben Arbuckle over from Washington State, and he brought his quarterback, John Mateer over. The Sooners are now expected to have a much better offense in 2025. Now, are they expected to have one of the best offenses? No. They still have a lot to work on.
But, they are expected to have an offense that can be explosive at times. And, that's not only because of Mateer and Arbuckle's system, but also because of some of the players they are putting around those guys, like Isaiah Sategna, Keontez Lewis, and let's not forget about Deion Burks coming back.
With Burks, and hopefully, we get to see him healthy, this offense can be great. Burks is a wildcard that the Sooners have, and they know it. Him paired with what Arbuckle wants to do is going to be a match made in heaven.
“Man, an energy guy," Deion Burks said. "He’s young, so we can connect with him well. He’s a great dude. I just know he’ll let it go. He wants to make those types of explosive plays down the field and I’m about what he’s about."
Of course, we have already talked about the part where he has to stay healthy, but the Sooners also need to make sure that the chemistry is there between the quarterbacks and the weapons. If they can make sure that's down, there really is no telling what could happen.
This offense has a ton of potential. And, I think most can see that. But, at the same time, no one really wants to get their hopes up because that's the same thing everyone thought this last year before the season started.
