The Oklahoma Sooners are one of those teams that are trying not to get lost in the shuffle of teams that can't quite adapt to this new era of college football. And, so far they are doing a decent job, but that's not good enough in the SEC.

So, the Sooners are taking all the precautions and doing everything they can to fix some of the issues they have. After having their general manager leave, the spot opened up, and now they have hired someone who is perfect for the job.

Oklahoma Sooners hire Jim Nagy as GM

Jim Nagy was the executive director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl, a major college all-star game in Mobile, Alabama, where he’s been in charge since 2018. He ran the football and business sides of the event, which highlights top NFL draft prospects who’ve finished college or are junior-year players entering the draft.

Under Nagy, the Senior Bowl has grown, with over 100 players drafted each year for three straight years by 2021—more than before. He focused on working with players, agents, and NFL teams while promoting the game through social media and deals with companies like Nike.

Before this, Nagy was an NFL scout for 18 years. He started as an intern with the Green Bay Packers in 1996, then scouted for the Washington Commanders (2001-2002), New England Patriots (2002-2009), Kansas City Chiefs (2009-2013), and Seattle Seahawks (2013-2018). His scouting experience helps him pick talent for the Senior Bowl and support NFL draft planning.

Nagy took the Senior Bowl job to balance work and family life after years of heavy scouting travel. He lived in Mobile—his wife’s hometown—and wanted to stay in football while being there for his son, a high school athlete. Now, he's on his way to Norman, Oklahoma to help the Sooners grow their football program, particularly the roster.

It cannot be understated how big of a hire this is for a program that seems to be hanging on by a thread during the Brent Venables regimes. This should help a ton.
