The Oklahoma Sooners have not been great on offense, but your eyes can see that, and I really don't need to be the one to tell you that. To keep it short, the offense stinks right now. The defense, and really special teams, are the sole reasons the Sooners are 2-0 in their inaugural SEC season. And, they have had some help from two pretty bad teams the Temple Owls and the Houston Cougars.

This football program is so used to having an elite offense and a bad defense. But, with Venables, it's switched this year, and so did the offensive coordinator, scheme, offensive line, and quarterback. And, they have more injuries now than anyone could have predicted. So, it may take some time. Either way, Venables is confident in this group on that side of the ball to pick up their slack.

He's also confident that his sophomore quarterback, Jackson Arnold, will bounce back and be great.

“He’s a mature, tough guy. He’s handled it really well… He’s taken ownership where he’s needed to," head coach Brent Venables said on Tuesday.

Arnold played okay in the first game. He wasn't bad but he wasn't otherworldly. He made some really great throws, specifically the one to Jalil Farooq, which was the play he broke his foot, and the one to J.J. Hester, which was a drop in the end zone. He played fine.

Against the Cougars, he didn't play great. He had some miscues, of course, he had the interception, which Deion Burks has now taken credit for, and he had some just bad throws overall. It feels like he's trying to be perfect, which isn't what you want from your QB. You want him to feel free.

Arnold can sling it, we know that. Now, it's just about slinging it consistently. After all, this is technically his first year, so we really can't be too hard on him either. It will come.
