The Oklahoma Sooners had a major recruiting event over the weekend, pulling in dozens of recruits across the 2026, 2027, and some 2028 recruits. The highlight of the weekend, of course, was realigning their 2026 class and regaining lost momentum from the 2024 season and changes that occurred afterwards.

All of the attention was on elite quarterback Bowe Bentley, who could be the lynchpin for Oklahoma's entire recruiting class, but the Sooners had plenty of other talents in as well that they pulled out all the stops for.

Four-star wide receiver Davian Groce, one of the top players in the state of Texas and a borderline five-star recruit, made his way up to Norman for the weekend, and the Sooners made a big impression on the speedster. To do so, they called in some notable reinforcements to help convince Groce to become a Sooner.

According to Collin Kennedy of 247Sports, the Sooners called in Dede Westbrook, Ryan Broyles, and Mark Clayton (among others) to spend time with Groce this weekend. Between those three, there is a Heisman finalist, a Biletnikoff award winner, five All-American appearances, and six All-conference appearances, as well as the former FBS career reception leader and a national champion. Quite a group.

Groce would be a massive boost to the Sooners' 2026 recruiting class. He would be their highest-ranked recruit, coming in at 37th overall in 247Sports Composite rankings. Baylor has been the slight favorite so far, but other SEC schools, Florida and Texas A&M, have made inroads in his recruitment.

However, as Kennedy noted, Groce's family on his mom's side grew up as Oklahoma fans, and he grew up around these players. Having them as part of his recruitment seemingly made an impressive experience for Groce.

It's too early to call anything, but such a weekend has to have made the Sooners feel good about gaining some ground and emerging in Groce's recruitment. If Oklahoma can pull it off, they'll have taken another major step in bouncing back into another top ten class.
