On Tuesday, the Oklahoma Sooners landed three-star wide receiver Xavier Okwufulueze. Some may read that and think it doesn’t move the needle, but the Sooners were actually able to secure their first in-state commitment for the 2026 class, which is extremely important.

Now, this should have happened a long time ago, whether it was landing Norman North star OL and WRs Daniel McMorris and Mason James, or sending the offer to Okwufulueze a long time ago. This is an offer that he’s been waiting for some time, according to Keegan Pope of Rivals. He received the offer on Monday from WR coach Emmett Jones and committed on Tuesday, as the Owasso, Oklahoma, kid secured his dream offer.

What Sooners are getting in three-star wide receiver Xavier Okwufulueze

The Oklahoma Sooners like what they’re getting from the in-state kid. He’s a three-star recruit, according to some recruiting sites’ rankings, but they believe his potential will outweigh that ranking. And, the Sooners don’t care what a ranking says; they just watch the film and base everything on what they see.

So, of course, they had to send the offer in.

“Coach [Emmett] Jones sent me [the invite] on Wednesday, and he just said to make sure I sign up and he hopes I can make it,” Okwufulueze told SoonerScoop. “A few weeks ago, he was complimenting my game and saying my game will take off when I get to college.”

Okwufulueze is 6-4, 200 pounds at receiver, but is recognized as an ATH, or athlete, on recruiting sites because of his ability to play more than one position. For the Sooners, though, he would be a receiver. Okwufulueze has great speed for his size, is as athletic as it gets at his position, and will only get more athletic when he gets into an SEC training program. He has great ball tracking skills when it’s in the air, and doesn’t lose many, if any, 50/50 jumpballs.

He’s the second WR in the 2026 class, joining Daniel Odom, with two tight ends in the class as well. The Sooners are getting as many weapons as they can to come in next year for Michael Hawkins or even Bowe Bentley to throw to.
