It's no secret that head coach Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners are great at recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. And, that's largely because of Venables' history on that side of the ball. So, getting an in-state stud shouldn't be too hard.

But, with the struggles the Sooners have had the last three years, really two of the three, their recruiting hasn't been in the top 5-10 like it probably should be. Under Venables, the Sooners have had two losing seasons, including their first one since 1998. So, you can imagine that, after this last season where they lost their Bowl Game to the Navy, they would start to get some disinterest from recruits.

But, even with that happening last season, they are still in good shape to potentially land one of the best players in the country, who also happens to be an in-state player.

Sooners land in the top 6 for Tajh Overton

Tajh Overton is a top high school defensive tackle from Owasso High School in Oklahoma, part of the class of 2026. At 6’3” and 275 pounds, he’s big, fast, and strong, making him tough to block at the high school level, and maybe even the college level after some development.

In his sophomore year, he had 64 tackles, 25 for loss, five sacks, and 15 quarterback pressures, standing out even against strong teams like Bixby. He’s already one of the best players in his state and a four-star recruit, ranked around No. 211 nationally by Rivals.

Colleges are lining up to get him, with offers from big names like Oklahoma, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas, Miami, Florida State, and Arkansas.

Overton wasn’t always a huge name, but his sophomore year changed that. With his senior year still to come, he’s got time to get even better, but he’s already on track to be a star in college football.
